U.S. U-20 MNT Rounds Out 2010 With Win Versus Canada
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Dec. 18, 2010) -- The U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team topped Canada 5-0 in its final friendly of 2010. Three goals from Joe Gyau and two from Josh Gatt lifted Thomas Rongen's side against the CONCACAF foe.
The U.S. got on the board early, but took just a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the 12th minute, Gatt beat his man down the left wing and slotted the ball back to an onrushing Gyau, who hit a first-time shot to give the young Americans the lead. It wasn't until the 64th minute that Gatt, who was involved in all five U.S. goals, doubled the lead. This time it was Zarek Valentin providing the service into the box, where Gatt was able to hit the ball on a volley and make it 2-0.
In the 75th, Gyau hit his second of the night after another well played cross from Gatt, who created havoc for the Canadian defense throughout the night. The pair teamed up once more in the 88th minute for the team's fifth goal. The USA's fourth goal had come not from a cross, but from a give-and-go between Kelyn Rowe and Gatt, who rushed into the box to receive the ball and beat the goalkeeper to the far post.
