U.S. head coach TOM SERMANNI
On Abby Wambach’s 153rd-career goal:
“I told her she wasn’t coming off until she scored. It’s great, what a career. Every game Abby plays she either scores or she’s in the mix. She creates so many chances and opportunities; stuff happens for other players. I think it’s a great way for her to celebrate her 200th game.”

On Sydney Leroux and Christen Press:
“The thing that has impressed me about them is the mobility and the way that they kept possession for us and the opportunities that they created for themselves and for other players. Press has had two outstanding games. Three goals in less than two matches is a great start.”

On what he can tell about the WNT in his two games so far:
“Some of the things we need to work on are being a little bit better at keeping possession. But I can tell that when things are not going well, they can turn it up a gear. That’s a sign of a very good team. The amount of chances they can create is impressive. There are some very talented players on this team and there is a myth out there that the U.S. team is all about pace and power and fitness and that’s really not true. There are some very talented players on this team, but there are some things we need to work on.”

On her 200th career cap:
“You think about these type of games and I don’t personally like to hype them up for the sole reason that it’s a team game and as many games as I played in you need your teammates to score goals and win games. You only get so many opportunities to play for your country and you only get so many opportunities to score in front of the net. I’ve been given the gift to score goals and I hope I can continue to do the same thing for as long as I possibly can.”

On Sydney Leroux’s first-career start:
“It was pretty appropriate in my opinion. Sydney Leroux was my roommate on this trip and I’ve watched her grow up on this team so I thought it was really fitting for her to give me that assist.”

On the crowd in Nashville:
“It’s been brilliant. Playing in a big stadium can feel big if the crowd isn’t into it but this crowd was great and got behind us and obviously getting a goal in the first half was nice. It gave them something to cheer about and they were rowdy.”

On her success in her first two starts:
“It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve never experienced fans like this. It brings a lot of energy so it’s made it a lot of fun to play for this team and get my first two caps. It’s been a long time for me hoping to get an opportunity on this team so right now I am just really grateful for having that. There are really great players on this team and I have a lot to learn from them and to grow with them. I’m just going to see how it goes and the end result will hopefully be for me to improve as a player every day.”
