Donovan and Pope Headline U.S. Roster vs. Japan

CARSON, Calif. (Feb. 8, 2006) - U.S. MNT Manager Bruce Arena has announced a 20-man roster that will travel to San Francisco in advance of the match against fellow World Cup finalists Japan on Feb. 10, live on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. PT. The group will depart Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon. Tickets for the match at SBC Park are still available online at

Frankie Hejduk (strained right quad), Kyle Martino (strained hamstring) and Santino Quaranta (groin strain) will all stay in the Los Angeles area to receive treatment while Ugo Ihemelu (Los Angeles Galaxy) and Brad Guzan (Chivas USA) will train with their club teams over the weekend.

Landon Donovan leads the stable of available players heading into the clash vs. Japan. With 75 career caps each, Donovan and veteran defender Eddie Pope have the most experience on the current U.S. roster.

While Pope and Donovan patrol the defense and midfield, respectively, Taylor Twellman looks to once again provide the spark for the U.S. attack. The Revolution forward led the USA’s offensive outburst vs. Norway on Jan. 29, scoring three goals in a 5-0 U.S. win.

Bobby Boswell and Zach Wells will make the trip in search of their first career caps.

Arena will reveal the starting XI for the Japan match exclusively at one hour before kickoff on Friday evening. Fans can then follow all the action live on’s MatchTracker.
