MANAUS, Brazil (Oct. 24, 2011) – The U.S. Futsal National Team closed out the Grand Prix of Futsal tournament last night with a 1-0 loss against Costa Rica.
After going down 1-0 in the seventh minute, the U.S. fought hard to get on the scoreboard. With as many shots during the match as Costa Rica, the U.S. created plenty of opportunities but could not get one past the goalkeeper.
The men were out of contention to win the Grand Prix after the first three group games, but the team continued to play consolation matches with the bottom two teams in each of the four groups.
Though the U.S. failed to record a single win in Brazil, the team scored a total of 10 goals in six games, including seven in its group match against Belgium. This was the first time USA has competed in the invitational competition, which is renown as the most prestigious event in world futsal.
