CASL Chelsea FC Academy and FC Dallas Play to 2-2 Draw

MILWAUKEE (July 11, 2011) – After giving up a goal in the 80th minute, CASL Chelsea FC Academy scored an important equalizer in the 88th minute to finish 2-2 and hold on to a slim lead in Group 2 of the U-17/18 Development Academy Finals Week. Monbo Bokar scored both goals for CASL while Victor Ulloa matched the feat for FC Dallas.

With the draw, FC Dallas and CASL Chelsea FC Academy both have four points with one group game remaining. CASL currently holds the advantage on the first tiebreaker, which is goal differential. FC Dallas will play Weston FC and CASL Chelsea FC Academy will play Baltimore Bays Chelsea, with both games kicking off Wed., July 13, at 6 p.m. CT.

The game started off evenly with both teams attacking. Though FC Dallas held an edge on possession, CASL was the first to break through. Cooper Vandermaas-Peeler was fouled in the penalty area by goalkeeper Eduardo Cortes, and forward Monbo Bokar stepped up and converted the spot kick in the 22nd minute.

At the other end, CASL goalkeeper Paul West was busy, smothering a breakaway opportunity from Jose Perez. In the third minute of added time to the first half, Ulloa received the ball at the top corner of the box and fired a hard shot that soared high and inside the near post.

In the 65th minute, Flavio Guzman turned and hit a shot that deflected off a defender and nearly snuck into the high part of the goal but ended up dropping just over the bar.

In the 80th minute, FC Dallas took the lead following a good attacking buildup. Kellyn Acosta played the ball forward for Ulloa, who forced a diving save from West. The rebound caromed to the far post where Michael Ambrose was continuing his run. Ambrose did well to slot the ball back into the box, where Ulloa was waiting and hammered home to the near post.

The FC Dallas lead would only last eight minutes, however, as a long throw in was flicked on into Bokar’s path by an FC Dallas defender. The strong forward knocked the ball to the far post to level the score at 2-2 with two minutes remaining.

Looking for the win, FC Dallas turned up its pressure after the equalizer. Bryan Leyva made a smooth turn in the box and curled a shot that hit the crossbar. In stoppage time, David Robledo hit a low shot that was cleared off the line by a CASL defender, ending the game at two goals apiece.
