What’s it going to be? Door number one, door number two, or door number THREE?!? Okay, so this section has less to do with “Let’s Make A Deal” and more to do with the Multiple Choice section of an SAT test. “In 3’s” peeks inside the head of a select National Team player as they pick one of three choices for 25 questions about personal tastes and pop culture.

U.S. MNT midfielder Clint Dempsey has had a whirlwind couple of years. After leaving his small town of Nacogdoches, Texas to play at Furman University in Greenville, S.C., Dempsey made his way onto the U.S. U-20 roster for the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship in the United Arab Emirates and then a month later was picked eighth overall by the New England Revolution in the 2004 SuperDraft. After a stellar freshman campaign that won him the Gatorade Rookie of the Year award, Dempsey has climbed his way onto the full MNT, getting two caps in the last two qualifying games. But, most importantly he has now finally made it to In 3’s.

Best date activity: dinner and a movie, sporting event or comedy club?
“Comedy club.  Laughing is one of my favorite things to do.”

Best macho vehicle: sports car, SUV or big ol’ truck?
SUV.  A big truck looks like you’re overcompensating for something.  An SUV is just smooth.  You’re chillin’.”

Favorite city you’ve lived in: Nacogdoches, Texas; Greenville, S.C. or Boston?
Nacogdoches, because home is where the heart is.”

Best thing about growing up in Nacogdoches: the fishing, weather, or the people?
“The fishing.  In East Texas, there’s a lot of lakes, ponds and fishing.  It’s one of my favorite things to do.”

Best Furman University tradition: Boat Float, Beach Weekend, or getting thrown in the lake on your birthday?
“Beach Weekend.  Everyone skipped classes that Friday and hung at the beach.  Since we were on trimesters, our spring break was kind of pointless, so that was the best we could do.”

Best thing about Texas: barbecues, rodeos or girls in cowboy hats?
“Barbecue. It’s just so good.  One of my favorite foods. Everyone’s always barbecuing.”

Favorite SI Swimsuit cover girl: Elle MacPherson, Tyra Banks or Heidi Klum?
Heidi Klum.  She just does it for me.”

Best leisure footwear: flip-flops, runners or sneakers?
“Flip-flops for chillin’.  They’re easier to take off when you’re getting into bed.”

Forced to choose one, the event you’d partake in at a Texas rodeo: steer wrestling, bull riding or calf roping?
“That’s a good one.  I think calf roping.  It takes a lot of skill, and it looks like a lot of fun.  And you won’t get hurt as bad. I had a cousin and an uncle who used to do bull riding.  It looks like a rush, but they got banged up a bit.”

Favorite type of non-American food: Mexican, Italian or Chinese/Asian?
“Mexican.  I like it kind of spicy, but not over the top.  Chicken quesadillas are my favorite.”

Best late night food/snack: burrito, slice or gyro?
“Pizza.  I like to eat it cold sometimes, so it’s nice when you come home and you’ve got the munchies.”

Best thing to eat at a barbecue: ribs, burgers or chicken?
“My favorite is chicken.  I think it tastes better.  But the other two come a close second.”

Punk’d.  It’s funny to see how people act on TV, then to see the difference when they don’t think the camera is on them.”

Funniest animated series: “Simpsons,” “South Park” or “Family Guy”?
“The Simpsons.  Homer is my favorite character.  He always manages to surprise you.”

Worst reality show: “Swan,” “American Idol” or “Wife Swap?”
“I’d have to say Swan.  Some of those women. I can see if a woman lost weight and getting some things tucked up.  But getting all your facial features changed, I don’t agree with that.”

Favorite show on Comedy Central: “Daily Show,” “South Park” or “Chapelle’s Show?”
Chapelle’s Show.  He’s one of my favorite comedians.  When he does Puffy in Making the Band, it’s hilarious.”

Soccer & Sports:
Biggest rival while at Furman: Clemson, Davidson or UNC-Greensboro?
“Clemson.  That was always a team that was ranked ahead of us.  It was always a good game.  It was more intense than any other game.  Plus, our coach and their coach didn’t get along too well.”

Favorite NFL team from the state of Texas: Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans or Houston Oilers?
“The Oilers were my favorite team growing up.  I lived about two hours away from Houston.  I loved watching Warren Moon, Ernest Givens, and Haywood Jeffries. One of the reasons I stopped watching football was when they got beat by the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs.  It broke my heart.”

Best off-the-field experience during the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship in the United Arab Emirates: riding a camel, visiting the Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai or finding and eating at a Fuddruckers?
“Eating at the Fuddruckers. The food was really different at the hotel, and it was pretty much the same every day. Getting to pig out after training at Fuddruckers was awesome.”

Best U.S. National Team player with ties to the state of Texas: Jeff Agoos, Mia Hamm or Kyle Rote, Jr.?
Mia Hamm because she’s done so much for women’s soccer.  I think she’s had more of an impact on the United States as a whole in terms of what she’s done for soccer.”

ESPN the Mag.  Just because it’s the only one I’ve read.”

“My favorite is TuPac. Growing up, I liked what he talked about.”

Best freestyle rapper you’ve ever sang with while on the road during a national team camp: Knox Cameron, Freddy Adu or Eddie Johnson? [Editor’s note: Dempsey is known as a pretty decent freestyle rapper.]
“That’s a close one.  It’s a tie between Eddie and Knox.  I need to hear them go against each other before I can make a decision.”

Country music: classic, corny or crap?
“Classic. It’s a lifestyle. I grew up in a trailer house. My dad had some land, some cows and stuff, so I can relate to it.”

Best soccer movie: “Bend it Like Beckham,” “Victory” or “Ladybugs?”
“I’d have to say Big Green.  It was hilarious.  I think it was made in Texas.  There was a kid from Furham named Anthony Esquivel who was in the movie.  It came out while he was in school, so we used to kill him about it.”

Favorite Texas-based movie: “The Alamo,” “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” or “Friday Night Lights?
Friday Night Lights. That’s the way things were down there. Football is an event. If you want to meet girls or something, you went to the football games because you knew everyone would be there.”

Angelina Jolie, because she has nice eyes and those sexy lips.”
