U.S. Under-17 Women Tie Germany, 1-1, to Finish Training Camp

The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team played two matches on March 8, tying the German U-17 Women’s National Team, 1-1, before falling to the Ajax Women’s Club later that evening, 2-1. Both matches were played at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The USA had defeated Germany, 3-2, in the first match between the two teams earlier in the week, but this one ended in a draw, with the USA firing 10 shots while Germany had 11. The U.S. team did produce seven corner kicks to Germany’s one, but it was the Germans who got on the board first in the 50th minute through Marie Pollman, a forward who terrorized both the U.S. U-17s and the U-16s during the week of games. The U.S. tied the game just eight minutes from the end as Elli Reed received a pass from Laura Heyboer in the middle of the field close to the top of the penalty area. She let the ball roll across her body and stuck her shot into the corner from just inside the box. A mostly different group of players squared off against Ajax, but Elli Reed was once again the goal scorer for the USA as the young Americans took the lead in the 63rd minute. Ajax, a team that U.S. WNT players Abby Wambach and Shannon Boxx have played for in the past, scored in the 73rd and 82nd minutes to win the match.
