SEOUL, Korea (Wednesday, May 29, 2002) - FIFA closed its pre-World Cup administrative meetings today as Joseph S. Blatter of Switzerland was elected to a second term as FIFA President by a 139-56 vote as one of the final matters of business at the 53rd Ordinary FIFA Congress in Seoul. The focus in Korea/Japan now turns to the field, where France and Senegal open play on Friday in Seoul (7:25 a.m. ET, ESPN2 & Univision).
Blatter, 66, was elected to his first four-year term as the eighth FIFA President on June 8, 1998, at the 51st FIFA Ordinary Congress in Paris, France. Prior to being elected President, Blatter served as FIFA's General Secretary from 1981-1998.
