Symposium to Feature U.S. MNT Coaches Discussing Preparations for
2006 FIFA World Cup; “A” Licensed Coaches Earn Two CEUs

CHICAGO (April 28, 2006) – Coaches from around the United States have the opportunity to join U.S. Soccer's Coaching Department in supporting the U.S. Men's National Team during their three-game "Send-Off Series" in May before the team departs for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. U.S. Soccer will host three separate Coaching Symposia in conjunction with the "Send-Off Series" games against Morocco, Venezuela and Latvia. This is the final opportunity for anyone to interact with the U.S. National Team before the World Cup in a coaching environment sure to offer unique and valuable insight to the world of international soccer.

The three symposia will be led by U.S. Soccer National Staff Coaches. At the symposium before the U.S. MNT face Morocco on May 23, U.S. Soccer Region III National Staff Coach Juan Carlos Michia will discuss the U.S. Under-14 Development Program and the U.S. U-17 Residency Program. Roberto Lopez, U.S. Soccer Region II National Staff Coach, will discuss the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team training cycle at the symposium in conjunction with the match against Venezuela on May 26. U.S. Soccer Director of Coaching Bob Jenkins will lead the final symposium prior to the third match of the Send-Off Series against Latvia.

Coaches participating in the symposia will also hear from U.S. Men’s National Team assistant coaches, including MNT assistant coaches Glenn Myernick and Curt Onalfo, MNT goalkeeper coach Phil Wheddon and MNT strength and conditioning coach Pierre Barrieu. Myernick and Onalfo will discuss each of the upcoming matches specifically while Wheddon will discuss the goalkeepers’ preparation for each match as well as for the upcoming 2006 FIFA World Cup. Barrieu will address the team’s physical preparation for the Send-Off Series and the upcoming summer tournament.

Cost for each symposium is $65 for active U.S. Soccer Coaches Organization members, $70 for non-members, and includes a ticket to the game. Registration is open to all coaches. Space is limited and coaches are strongly encouraged to apply early. “A” licensed coaches will earn two Continuing Education Units for attending each of the two-day symposiums.

Hotel information for participating coaches is below. A discounted rate has been secured for coaches attending the symposium. Coaches must mention the “U.S. Soccer Coaches Symposium” to secure the discounted rate.
