Brandi Chastain Suffers Fracture of Third Metatarsal in Right Foot

CHASTAIN SUFFERS FRACTURE OF 3RD
METATARSAL IN RIGHT FOOT

U.S. defender Brandi Chastain suffered a fracture of the 3rd metatarsal bone in her right foot during the first half of the USA’s 3-1 victory in its opening game of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2003. Cat Reddick replaced Chastain at halftime and following the match Chastain had an X-ray on her foot at the Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington confirming the small fracture. Chastain will miss the rest of the USA’s first round matches, but will be re-evaluated at the end of group play as to her availability should the Americans advance to the quarterfinals or further.

Chastain Quote

"The most important thing about the day is that we earned the three points and we are one step closer to the quarterfinals. This is not an individual thing, my main concern is the team getting the necessary points to move on, and if that I means I have to contribute to that by cheering from the sidelines, I’ll cheer as loud as I can for my teammates. I’m a quick healer and feel very good about my chances of playing in the later rounds."
