U.S. WNT vs. China PR: Post-Game Quote Sheet

U.S. Women’s National Team vs. China
International Friendly
BBVA Compass Stadium; Houston, Texas
Dec. 12, 2012

U.S. Women’s National Team interim head coach JILL ELLIS
On Abby Wambach:
"She was excellent tonight. She's so dangerous on the end of crosses, and I thought she played very well. Her teammates put her in some good spots with some excellent balls. When all is said and done, you deal with tactics and you deal with teams, it comes down to special players, and that's exactly what Abby is. She's just special, she has a nose for goal, and she's a just a tremendous finisher inside the 18. She's clearly the best in the world."

U.S. Women’s National Team forward ABBY WAMBACH
On playing in Houston:
"I like Houston. I like playing here. The stadium is beautiful. As a player, you couldn't ask for anything better. I'm really excited that we could put on a show for the fans because that's what this tour is about. We won gold, and we're going around the country trying to showcase what we did in London."

On the past calendar year:

"In one simple word: 2012 has been epic. Not only on a personal level for me, but for how amazing it was for so many players on this team to step up. Alex Morgan has had a record year. She's scoring a ridiculous amount of goals and a ridiculous amount of assists. I'm just really lucky. I have really good players around me and they make me look good so often. I'm having a blast."

On the fan support during the Fan Tribute Tour:
"This kind of reception that we've had since London, and even since World Cup 2011, it doesn't get old. This is one of those things that we've been working so hard for when nobody was watching and when the few fans were coming out and supporting us. This is what we were doing it for. All that time when no one was watching. All the blood, sweat and tears. Now, people are noticing what this team can do, and I think it's pretty special. We just have to keep it going over the next few years leading up to the 2015 World Cup."

U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder HEATHER O'REILLY
On the match:
"We come to these games, and we hope to play a fun attacking style. I know as an outside flank player that when I have players like Abby Wambach in the box and Alex Morgan with her speed, getting some good crosses into the box is super important."

On playing with Abby Wambach:
"150 international goals is such an incredible feat. I'm so fortunate to have Abby on my team. I'm sure I would not like playing against her with her leadership, her passion and her ability in the air. She's one of the bravest players in the world, and that's why she's able to score so many goals."

U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder CARLI LLOYD
On enjoying the Fan Tribute Tour:
"We've been selling out some stadiums. We have a lot of people that have been coming to our games. We’ve had nine games, so that's nine opportunities for me personally to try and get better every game, enjoy it and help my teammates in any way that I can because there's no guarantees for next year."
