Fans May Apply for Tickets Online; Tickets to Be Distributed Through a Lottery in April
About 812,000 tickets for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany will go on sale to the general public beginning February 1, FIFA announced on Monday. People wishing to purchase tickets may do so by applying for them via the Internet through March 31. Tickets will not be sold on a first-come-first-serve basis, but will be allocated through a lottery beginning on April 15.
Should the United States Men’s National Team qualify for the World Cup, U.S. Soccer will receive an allocation of tickets from FIFA for each match involving the U.S. Select tickets from that allotment will be made available to registered fans at ussoccerfan.com at some point following the FIFA World Cup Final Draw in December 2005 in Leipzig, Germany. More details will be available as the process is finalized.
According to FIFA, fans will also be able to purchase tickets for U.S. matches, as the first sales period features “Team Specific Tickets” that allow fans to follow their team of choice from the group stage to the Final. Those tickets will not be part of U.S. Soccer’s allotment.
All tickets purchased with a credit card during FIFA’s first four sale periods must be made using MasterCard, an official FIFA World Cup sponsor. The other payment options are bank transfer or direct debit. Applicants who are allocated tickets during the lottery will receive written confirmation indicating the number and category of tickets. More information on FIFA’s ticket sales procedures and FIFA World Cup procedures in general is available at FIFAWorldCup.com.
For the qualifying run to the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany, U.S. Soccer is introducing a limited number of Ultimate Fan Tickets for World Cup Qualifying matches. “Ultimate Fans’ will get a first-class seat in the stadium, VIP access to the field before and after the game, a custom U.S. National Team jersey with their name and number and various other benefits throughout game day. Twenty “Ultimate Fan” tickets will be available for $550 each for the most hardcore fans. Tickets can be purchased by calling 312-528-1290 or emailing email@example.com.
Tickets are now on sale for the U.S. Men’s National Team’s first home match of the final hexagonal round of regional qualifying for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Finals on March 30 in Birmingham, Ala. against Guatemala. Other home qualifying matches will take place on June 4 against Costa Rica, August 17 versus Trinidad and Tobago, September 3 against Mexico and October 12 versus Panama. Venue and ticket information for those games will be available at ussoccer.com as it is released, and advance tickets will be available to registered fans at ussoccerfan.com.
