U-18 MNT Draws Mexico, Will Face Georgia for Third Place at Milk Cup

COLERAINE, Northern Ireland (July 27, 2011) -- After surrendering an early lead, the U.S. U-18 Men's National Team battled back to earn a 1-1 draw against rival Mexico in the second group game at the 2011 Milk Cup in Northern Ireland. Jesus Ruiz put Mexico on the board in the 12th minute, but Jalen Robinson scored for the U.S. in added time of the first half.

Ulicez Perez began the scoring sequence for Mexico, taking a hard shot on a free kick about 25 yards from goal. U.S. 'keeper Cody Cropper made the initial diving save, but the rebound bounced to the corner of the box. Ruiz was in the right spot and took a high shot over Cropper and into the net.

The U.S. goal came with just seconds remaining in the first half. Victor Pineda took a corner kick from the left side. The ball floated into the center of the box and fell perfectly to Robinson, who finished a low shot from eight yards out.

The result gives the U.S. four points from its two group matches following a 2-0 win against Israel on Monday. Denmark and Northern Ireland also finished with four points, and based on the goals scored tiebreaker, those two teams will meet in the championship game on Friday evening. The U.S. will face Georgia in the third-place game.
