U.S. WNT vs. China PR: Quote Sheet

U.S. Women’s National Team vs. China
International Friendly
FAU Stadium; Boca Raton, Fla.
Dec. 15, 2012

U.S. defender CHRISTIE RAMPONE
On the atmosphere tonight:
“We played well. Spirits were high and the fans were great. We saw the numbers of the fan base rise on this victory tour and that’s exciting to see.”

On the year overall for the team:
“It’s been an unbelievable few years for us between the World Cup, all the games leading up to the Olympics and being able to come home with a gold medal. It made all the good and bad days of training worth it.”

On the new women’s league, today unveiled as the NWSL:
“We need a league for soccer to continue to grow. We need the next 50 to 100 girls who come out of college to have a place to play. With more attention than we’ve ever had, I’m very excited about the league.”

U.S. midfielder MEGAN RAPINOE
On her goal:
“It was one of those where it wasn’t going to be too high, so I didn’t hit it that hard. It wasn’t swerving and I hit it right down center. It felt good as soon as it came off.”

On the match:
“It’s always good to win games, of course. To play in front of a crowd like this is unbelievable. It’s our way of saying thank you and to be able to put on a good show for them is always nice.”

U.S. forward ABBY WAMBACH
On the atmosphere and returning to South Florida:
“What a great crowd and what a fantastic stadium. You never know what you miss until you come back here. All the fans we got here when we played on the MagicJack team got to see the team and this ends a really great year, so everybody’s happy.”

On she and Alex Morgan tying the record for combined goals by two players:
“I’m not really one to talk about records ever, but something I’m very proud of is Alex and I tied a record today. Tying that record means so much to me because Alex and I spend so much time together in practice. Drill after drill, shot after shot, keeping each other motivated. When Alex scores it lights something inside of me and when I score it lights something inside her.”

U.S. forward ALEX MORGAN
On Abby’s goals:
“I want her to score, she wants me to score, so it’s a really healthy relationship on the field and I love playing up top with her.”

On the U.S. team’s fantastic year:
“This is the 32nd game we’ve played this year. I think we’re all ready to get a little bit of rest. We obviously wanted to come out on this victory tour and have fun and enjoy each other. We wanted to come back for our fans and do this for the fans and enjoy ourselves and I think that’s what we did.”

On the fan support:
“It’s really great to see the fans continuing to support us, because that’s what the victory tour is for us. It’s a chance to give back to our fans.”
