U.S. U-17 Residency Players Sweep Back-to-Back Friendlies with Canada

CHICAGO (Oct. 18, 2013) – The U.S. U-17 Residency Program played a pair of international friendlies against the Canada U-17 National Team this past weekend, recording a 3-0 win on Saturday and a 2-0 win on Sunday.

In the first friendly on Saturday, Haji Wright, Pierre Da Silva and Joe Gallardo combined to score three goals in a decisive six-minute span in the second half. Wright opened the goal scoring in the 68th minute, finishing off a pass from Da Silva before turning provider for Gallardo’s strike one minute later. Gallardo then fed Da Silva to complete the scoring in the 74th minute.

Sunday’s match featured a new group of players for the U.S., with the exception of Edwin Lara and Alex Zendejas who both saw time as substitutes in the first friendly. Sean Teixeira and Devin Vega supplied a pair of first half goals in the 32nd and 37th minutes, respectively, to give the U.S. a clean sweep of the two-game series.

The U.S. U-17 MNT will next be in action at the Nike International Friendlies, which will take place in Lakewood Ranch, Fla., from Dec. 9-15.
