Newly-Promoted Fulham F.C. to Visit Florida in May
CHICAGO (Monday, April 23, 2001) - Major League Soccer's two Florida clubs announced last week that they will host international friendlies against English First Division champions Fulham F.C. in May. The Miami Fusion will host the first match at the Homestead Sports Complex on Saturday, May 12. The Fusion feature Ian Bishop, a former English First Division and Premiership player who played for Manchester City before joining the Fusion earlier this year.
The Tampa Bay Mutiny will host Fulham's second match in Florida on Wednesday, May 16 at Pepin-Rood Stadium at the University of Tampa. F
Fulham F.C., founded in 1898 and based in West London, won the 24-team First Division title this season and will be promoted to the Premiership in 2001-02 for the first time since the 1967-68 campaign. U.S. Men's National Team midfielder Eddie Lewis and former MLS goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann play for Fulham.
Fulham's chairman is billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed, owner of the famed Harrod's luxury department store.
