U.S. U-17 WNT Open Cycle with 3-1 Victory against Germany

SUNRISE, Fla. (Jan. 31, 2011) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team opened its new cycle with a 3-1 victory over the German U-17s as forward Amber Munerlyn scored twice and Summer Green tallied once. The U-17s are beginning the long road to the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup which will be held in Azerbaijan.

The U.S. U-17s, all born in 1995, opened the scoring through Munerlyn in the 29th minute as she finished into the upper right corner from the left side of the penalty area off a pass from Joanna Boyles.

The USA doubled its lead in the 50th minute as Green stripped German captain Wibke Meister and dribbled in on a break, slotting home from just inside the left corner of the penalty box into the lower right corner of the goal.

The young Americans put the game away 10 minutes later as Munerlyn completed her brace with a hard finish off an end line cross from Green. The Germans pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute through Fabienne Dongus, but the match was well in hand by then.
