Georgia Revolution Wins Penalty-Kick Thriller; FC Hasental Picks up High-Scoring Road Win in Fresno

CHICAGO (May 8, 2013) – The NPSL’s FC Hasental rallied for a 5-3 victory against US Club Soccer’s Fresno Fuego Future and the Georgia Revolution (NPSL) needed penalty kicks to top Colorado Rovers (USSSA) as the 100th edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup got underway Tuesday night.

Hasental’s Gilberto Villalobos and Alberto Anguiano each scored a pair of goals as the squad overcame an early third-minute deficit with four straight tallies. Armando Gaitan also added a tally for Hasental. Fresno Fuego Future’s Alex Caceres had the game’s first goal while teammates Alberto Anguiano and Ferid Celosmanovic contributed second-half scores.

The victory means FC Hasental will face the PDL’s Ventura County Fusion in the first round on May 14 at Ventura College in Ventura, Calif.

The Georgia Revolution garnered a lead in the 23rd minute from Ghana native Kwadwo Poku, who collected a loose ball in the box and found the back of the net. But Colorado Rovers made a game of it with Marc Herschberger’s 76th-minute equalizer for his first goal of the tournament. That pushed the match into overtime, and with both teams going scoreless in extra time, Georgia prevailed by converting all five of its penalty kicks for a 5-3 shootout victory.

The Revolution will host Real Colorado Foxes in first-round play on May 14.
