Across the Academy - April 12

WHAT’S AHEAD:
East Conference’s PDA Hosts Baltimore Bays: Players Development Academy and Baltimore Bays Chelsea are atop their respective divisions in the East Conference. That sets the stage for a highly anticipated matchup between the clubs at both the U-15/16 and U-17/18 age groups this Saturday at the PDA Facility in Zarephath, N.J. PDA’s U-15/16 team leads the way with an 11-1-1 record and 34 points. The team averages nearly three goals per game (38 goals in 13 matches) and allows fewer than one goal per game (12 goals overall).

Top Great Lakes Teams Converge: The top two teams from the Great Lakes Division meet up in a local derby as the Chicago Fire host Sockers FC at Toyota Park on Saturday. Sockers FC’s U-17/18 team (3-0-0 Great Lakes, 7-0-3 overall) has the early points lead in the Great Lakes, but the Fire (2-0-0 division, 7-2-0) are close behind, and they tout the division’s top goal differential in all matches with a 28-6 scoring advantage this season. The Sockers are outscoring their opponents 20-7.

Former Academy Finalists Meet: The 2010-11 Development Academy Finalists at the U-17/18 age group meet this weekend as CASL Chelsea FC Academy faces Weston FC in Weston, Fla. The U-17/18 CASL Chelsea FC Academy is off to another strong start in 2011-12 with a 9-2-2 record, while Weston FC is fighting for a playoff spot at 8-7-2. Both U-15/16 teams are still unbeaten in divisional play as CASL Chelsea is 4-0-0 in the Atlantic Division and Weston FC is 4-0-4 in the Southeast Division.

Pateadores, Chivas USA Renew Rivalry: Chivas USA and Pateadores square off on Saturday in one of many LA derbys. The Chivas USA U-17/18 team is atop its division with a 7-1-3 record, while the Chivas USA and Pateadores U-15/16 teams are tied for fourth with 4-4-3 division records. Both teams met earlier this year, when Chivas USA swept both age groups on Oct. 29.

The Academy has 110 games scheduled from Thursday through Sunday, and pending any cancellations, it will mark the busiest weekend to date. Earlier this year, 106 Academy matches were played March 17-18.

LAST WEEK’S HIGHLIGHTS:
The Development Academy was on hiatus from regular-season play this past weekend.
