CHICAGO (Monday, May 7, 2001) - In their fourth week of action, the WUSA offenses finally clicked in a goal-scoring barrage that saw 12 goals scored in four games. In their first eight games of the season, amazingly, just nine goals had been scored. After the Atlanta Beat topped the Boston Breakers 1-0 and the San Diego Spirit beat the Washington Freedom 2-0 (in a game featuring two goals from Shannon MacMillian) on Saturday, the offensive surge really began on Sunday with the New York Power winning 3-1 over the Carolina Courage and the Philadelphia Charge downing the Bay Area CyberRays 3-2 in the highest scoring game in the WUSA's young history.
