CHICAGO (Aug. 5, 2013) – The U.S. Under-15 Boys' National Team will be competing in the Copa Mexico de Naciones from Aug. 7-19 in Mexico City.
U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team head coach Richie Williams will be at the helm of the team at the tournament, as this group hopes to serve as a corps for the next Under-17 cycle which will attempt to qualify for the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
The USA’s 20-player roster includes 16 players with ties to the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Christian Pulisic of PA Classics was named to the U-15/16 East Conference Starting XI after leading his team with 15 goals during the season. St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri midfielder Logan Panchot is the younger brother of Austin Panchot, who was a runner-up at the 2012 Academy Finals Week and played up with the U-17/18 Academy team that took fifth place at the 2013 Finals Week.
The U.S. was drawn into Group B with Brazil, Uruguay and Panama. Group A consists of hosts Mexico, Chile, Paraguay and Canada while Group C contains Argentina, Costa Rica, Colombia and Cuba.
In the 2012 edition of the tournament, the U.S. failed to get out of the group stage, falling to Spain in the opener before beating Costa Rica and drawing Colombia to finish tied on points, but in third based on goal differential.
The U-15 BNT opens the tournament against Brazil on Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. local time (9 a.m. ET). Group play continues against Panama on Aug. 11 and concludes against Uruguay on Aug. 12.
The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage and the final will be played Aug. 18 at Estadio Azteca.
