USSF D-2 Pro League Opens with Four Games, Week 2 Action Begins Friday

Week 1 Recap
The 2010 USSF Division-2 Pro League opening weekend is in the books and the first four games of the season have been completed. Saturday, April 10 marked opening day with the Carolina RailHawks prevailing 2-0 at home against first year club AC St. Louis. The Rochester Rhinos and Miami FC played to a 1-1 tie in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. after the home side came back to equalize in the second half . On Sunday, April 11, the weekend drew to a close with the Austin Aztex beating the Montreal Impact 2-0 at their new home at House Park in downtown Austin and the NSC Minnesota Stars falling to Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-0 in first game of the 2010 season taking place north of the border.

Week 1 Quick Hits

  • The match against Carolina marked the first game for AC St. Louis in franchise history
  • The first goal of the 2010 D-2 Pro League was scored by Etienne Barbara of the Carolina RailHawks in the fourth minute of their contest against AC St. Louis; he would later add a second to complete the scoring and become the only player with two goals after the first week of play
  • Two goals were scored in each of the four matches, of which there were three 2-0 wins and a 1-1 tie

Week 2 Preview
Week 2 will feature five matches as Crystal Palace Baltimore and the Tampa Bay Rowdies open their seasons at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, April 16. Also on Friday at 7 p.m. ET, the Carolina RailHawks are at home against the NSC Minnesota Stars who will be looking to turn around their opening loss to Vancouver. Saturday, April 17 will feature three matches, the first of which will be the Portland Timbers opening their season against the Rochester Rhinos at 7 p.m. ET. AC St. Louis will look to rebound at home when they face the Austin Aztex at 7:10 p.m. ET, and rounding out the weekend will be Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Miami FC at 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans can watch all matches of the 2010 season via live streaming video on the club websites.

Week 2 Notes

  • Crystal Palace Baltimore will be making their first foray into Division 2 professional soccer on April 16 after playing in third division USL-2 last year
  • Carolina and Miami will look to remain unbeaten at home after recording a win and a tie respectively in their home openers in Week 1
