Denilson, Felipe, Fabio Jr. Help Brazil Dominate U.S. in Friendly
BRASILIA, Brazil (Wednesday, April 7, 1999) - With the trio of Denilson, Felipe and Fabio Jr. at the helm, the Brazil Under-23 National Team dominated the U.S. Under-23s, 7-0 in a friendly late Wednesday in front of more than 30,000 fans at Mane Garrincha Stadium. Denilson started the scoring in the 23rd minute when he converted a penalty kick after Fabio Jr. was taken down by U.S. goalkeeper Matt Napoleon in the box. Second-half sub Roni went on to notch two goals and an assist to put the match out of reach. After a recent full men's national team loss to Japan and an Under-20 loss to Spain, Brazil fielded its top squad for the match, while the U.S.A. was missing as many as six starters. The U.S. U-23s are now 4-2-4 overall in 1999 and 1-2-0 internationally.
