U.S. Soccer's 2003 Annual General Meeting in Chicago


As part of our continuing effort to service and educate our membership, each Thursday U.S. Soccer will provide an informative article from one of its departments. Once a week, we will bring you an article/paper/essay that will hopefully enhance your enjoyment and knowledge of the game of soccer - on and off the field.

This week we examine U.S. Soccer's Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is taking place next year from August 13-16 in Chicago.  More than 550 people attended the 2002 AGM in San Francisco.

U.S. Soccer's 2003 Annual General Meeting in Chicago

Next year's AGM in Chicago will be a special one, as U.S. Soccer celebrates its 90th Anniversary in 2003.  U.S. Soccer was founded in 1913 as the United States Football Association, and the first Annual General Meeting was held just three years later.

This year's AGM will take place in Chicago - the home of U.S. Soccer.  U.S. Soccer moved its base of operations to Chicago and the U.S. Soccer House in 1991.  U.S. Soccer House is located in the historic Prairie District, just minutes south of the downtown area.

The election of the U.S. Soccer President takes place once every four years at the AGM.  U.S. Soccer also holds it Board of Directors' meeting  at the AGM, and the U.S. Soccer Foundation holds its elections at the meeting. Other meetings taking place include Athlete Council, Regional Youth and Amateur meetings, and the annual meetings of the U.S. Amateur Soccer Association and United States Youth Soccer.  At these meetings, the various groups also approve changes to bylaws, budgets and conduct the business for their various organizations.

In the four-day session in Chicago a variety of meetings will take place, including the the National Council Meeting.  The NCM is the largest meeting of the week and includes a review of bylaw changes, an affirmation of Federation policies adopted since the 2002 AGM  and more.

Next year’s AGM will take place August 13 – 16, 2003 in Chicago, Illinois.  In the following document you will find information regarding registration, hotel accommodations, transportation, AGM meeting details, sponsorship opportunities, web site information, and a contact summary.

I. REGISTRATION

In order to receive a discounted registration fee; mail the enclosed registration form and payment by June 13, 2003 to:

FAXES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED

Registration fees are non-refundable. Each attendee will receive confirmation after the registration form(s) and check(s) are received at U.S. Soccer Federation. Please be sure to include your e-mail address on the Registration Form since the confirmation may be sent via e-mail.

Should you submit forms and then have a change in delegates and/or alternates, please advise us of this change by July 11, 2003. Changes after July 11, 2003 will incur a $20.00 processing fee for each change.

If you submit one check for your entire organization, please enclose ALL registration forms in one envelope.

NOTE: Registrations postmarked July 7th or later will be considered “On Site” and AGM Book will be distributed at the Registration booth at the hotel.

Please contact the hotel directly at (800) 233-1234  to reserve your room, and ask for the U.S. Soccer Federation rate. Group rates are offered on a space available basis until July 7, 2003. Reservations requested after this date may be available only at standard hotel rates. All reservations must be accompanied by a one night’s deposit.  Please note that reservations must be cancelled 72 hours in advance to avoid forfeiting your deposit.  

III. TRANSPORTATION

     B. CAR RENTAL
     U.S. Soccer has secured discounted rates through Avis.  Reservations may be made by calling 1-800-331-1600 and using the Avis Worldwide Discount group number K009099.

IV. AGM MEETING DETAILS

     A. GOODY BAG DONATIONS
     If your company or organization would like to donate an item for the goody bag which is distributed to all attendees, please contact Bob Albus at (312) 528-1271.  Quantities are 1,000.
     If you wish to distribute any handouts, literature, flyers or brochures in the goody bag, the fee is $650.00.  Please note: distributing literature is not permitted on hotel premises.  Please contact Bob Albus at (312) 528-1271 for more information on goody bag distributions.

     B. MEETING ROOMS
     If your group or committee has a need for a meeting room, please send a written request via e-mail to Bob Albus at balbus@ussoccer.org  by Friday, May 24, 2003.

     C. SINGLE TICKET PURCHASES
     All functions require a badge or ticket to attend. Official AGM badges must be worn to all AGM events for admission, unless you have purchased an individual ticket for that specific event.
