U.S. Under-17 91 Men's National Team Beats Australia

TOYOTA, Japan (August 11, 2007) -- The U.S. Under-17 91 Men’s National Team topped Australia, 3-0, in their second game of the Toyota International Youth Championship, taking second-place in Group A of the tournament and earning a berth in the third-place match against a Japanese Youth All-Star team.

The U.S. opened scoring in the 36th minute when a Perry Kitchen shot rebounded to Nick Millington, who hit a one-touch volley into the upper corner past Australian goalkeeper Mark Brighitti.

Eder Arreola made it 2-0 in the 58th minute, getting on the end of a ball that Amobi Okugo played perfectly over the defense. Arreola brought the ball down with his chest in stride and placed his low shot just inside the far post.

In the 74th minute, Charles Renken used some footwork to get around a pair of defenders and slotted a through ball into the box, where Dersu Abolfathi ran onto it and beat the rushing Brighitti for the final score of 3-0. Goalkeeper Samir Badr earned the shutout for the U.S.

The U.S. takes on the Japanese All-Stars on Sunday to determine third place in the tournament.
