U-18s Battle Portadown FC First Team in Warm Up for Northern Ireland Milk Cup

PORTADOWN, Northern Ireland (July 24, 2009) -- The U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team battled the first team of Portadown FC as a warm up for the upcoming Milk Cup. Despite falling 1-0, the U.S. was able to use the friendly as a good test before the prestigious tournament kicks off on Monday, July 27, when the team takes on Denmark U-18s.

The U.S. will play in the Elite Division of the competition against Denmark on July 27, and Germany on July 29, before a placement game on Friday, July 31. During the team’s last international trip to Lisbon, Portugal, they fought for a 0-0 draw against Germany, and with the European side added as a late replacement for Sudan, the U.S. are anxious for a rematch.

Included in the roster are a mix of college and youth players, with one player, Gregory Garza, who is already a professional playing at Sporting CP in Portugal.
