U.S. U-23 WNT Heads to England for Four Nations Tournament

CARSON, Calif. (June 30, 2010) -- U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team head coach Bill Irwin will bring 18 players to Leicester, England, from July 3-13 for a tournament that also features the U-23 sides from England, Norway and Sweden. For years, the summertime destination of the U.S. U-23s (formally U-21s) was the annual Nordic Cup, but as that historically eight-team tournament has not been held the past two years, this competition will serve as the team’s end-of-the-year programming before the players head off to their college pre-season camps. The USA will face England on July 7, Norway on July 9 and Sweden on July 12. Irwin’s roster features some of the nation’s top college players, perhaps some top picks in next year’s Women’s Professional Soccer draft and one WPS player in Katie Schoepfer of Sky Blue FC, a former Penn State star.
