In a game marked by 18 cards, including two ejections, German sub Marco Bode scored a short-handed goal in the 50th minute to give his side the lead and Miroslav Klose added his fifth goal of the tournament in the 79th minute to give Germany a 2-0 victory and first place in Group E, eliminating Cameroon from contention from a place in the second round. Germany needed just a draw to clinch its spot in the Round of 16, while Cameroon needed to win or have Ireland fail to win their match, played simultaneously.

Germany went down a man in the 40th minute when Carsten Ramelow was given his second yellow card in a span of four minutes. Bode came on for Carsten Jancker at halftime and took little time to score, finding the net in the 50th minute. The teams would return to equal numbers in the 77th minute as Cameroon's Patrick Suffo was given his second card after coming into the match as a sub in the 53rd minute. Two minutes later, Klose headed home his fifth goal of the tournament.

Germany will face the second-place team from Group B - Spain, South Africa or Parguay - in the Round of 16.
