U.S. Beach Soccer Team to Train in Merida, Mexico
CHICAGO (Aug. 3, 2011) – The U.S. Beach Soccer Team is set for a five-day training camp from Aug. 4-8 in Merida, Mexico, that will include two matches against Mexico. The two games will be a rematch of the 2010 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship semifinal, a game that the U.S. lost to miss out on the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup. Mexico will be using the two matches in Murida as preparation for that event, which is to be held from Sept. 1-11 in Italy.
The two teams most recently met in the Miami Cup held in May, where the U.S. came away with a dramatic 7-6 win behind two goals each from Francis Faberoff, and Nicolas Perera. That duo makes up two of only three players on the roster for Mexico who also participated in that Miami Cup tournament, the other being Oscar Gil.
