U-18 MNT Opens Milk Cup with 2-0 Win against Israel

BALLYMENA, Northern Ireland (July 25, 2011) -- A pair of second-half goals from Omar Salgado and Jerome Kiesewetter helped the U.S. U-18 Men's National Team earn a 2-0 win against Israel to open its 2011 Milk Cup campaign.

Just seven minutes into the second half, Pateadores midfielder Jose Villareal did some work to win a battle against his defender and come away with the ball near the right corner flag. He quickly played the ball across the goal mouth, where Salgado was crashing at the far post. Salgado made no mistake with his header, placing it into the top left corner of the goal.

Kiesewetter would double the USA's lead in stoppage time. Luis Gil, who had entered the game in the 69th minute, went on a break down the right side of the field. He beat the last defender in front of him at the corner of the penalty area and slotted the ball for Kiesewetter who was streaking into the center of the box. A soft touch from the Hertha Berlin forward placed the ball into far side of the goal.

Next up for Mike Matkovich's team is a match against rival Mexico at the Coleraine Showgrounds on Wednesday, July 27, at 8 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET). The teams in the Elite Group of the Milk Cup, which also includes Denmark, Georgia and Northern Ireland, will also play a placement match on Friday, July 29.
