U.S. Under-18s Wrap Up Regional Play With 8-2 Win Over Region III

Chula Vista, Calif. (January 6, 2003) - The U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team concluded their first training camp of 2003 with a thundering 8-2 victory against Region III today at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.  Danny Karbassiyoon recorded a hat trick for the U.S. to lead the rout, and Nathan Norman added two goals in the game's final 10 minutes.

Karbassiyoon opened the scoring in the 12th minute, scoring from a Paul Johnson pass.  Adam Christman and Arturo Alvarez added goals two minutes apart to give the U.S. a 3-0 lead in the 36th minute, before Regoin III pulled one goal back before halftime.

Karbassiyoon wrapped up his hat trick with goals in the 56th minute (assisted by Joe Vide) and the 67th minute (Arturo Alvarez), and then Region III added their final goal in the 78th minute.  The U.S. scored three goals in the game's final nine minutes to wrap up the scoring.

Earlier in Chula Vista, the U.S. used a Danny Vasquez goal to earn a 1-1 draw with Region II on January 3.  The following day the U.S. could only manage a Craig Capano goal and then allowed two goals in the game's final two minutes in a 3-1 loss to Region IV.
