Americans Will Face Germany as Host Side Gears up for 2013 European Women’s Championship
CHICAGO (Nov. 12, 2012) – The 2013 schedule for the U.S. Women’s National Team will include a match against Germany on German soil on April 5. The venue and kickoff time for the clash between the world’s top-ranked women’s national teams, which will come a little more than three months before Germany begins play at the 2013 European Women’s Championship, have not been confirmed.
The Women’s Euro 2013 will be held in Sweden from July 10 to July 28, 2013.
The USA has played Germany 27 times in its history, including two recent draws on the Fan Tribute Tour, presented by Panasonic, but has only faced the German side five times in Germany. The USA is 4-1-0 in those matches, the most recent of which was a 1-0 victory on Oct. 29, 2009, in Augsburg. The USA also played West Germany twice before the reunification of the countries, but neither match was in West Germany.
Both the USA and Germany will participate in the annual Algarve Cup in Portugal in early March of next year, so a meeting at that event is also possible. The groups have not been determined in the 12-team tournament.
