Beasley Invited to Football for Hope Benefit

BARCELONA, Spain (Monday, Feb. 14, 2005) - MNT midfielder DaMarcus Beasley has been invited to join more than 50 players from around the world to participate in the Football for Hope benefit match for victims of the Asian tsunami.
The game will take place at Barcelona’s Nou Camp Stadium on Tuesday and has been organized by FIFA and UEFA in consultation with the Spanish Football Federation. The Football for Hope match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 beginning at 2:55 p.m. ET.
One team will be led by Brazilian star by Ronaldinho, the FIFA World Player 2004, while the other is captained by Andriy Shevchenko, the European Footballer of the Year 2004.

Beasley, 22, played 16 minutes as a reserve for PSV Eindhoven's 0-0 draw at AK Alkmaar on Saturday. On Wednesday, Beasley started on the right side of midfield and played 90 minutes in the U.S. MNT's 2-1 win over Trinidad & Tobago in World Cup Qualifying.

A four-year veteran of the national team, Beasley has eight goals in 42 appearances with the U.S. He made three appearances for the U.S. during the 2002 FIFA World Cup, including starts in the first to matches of group play.
