Germany to Face Japan in Chicago to Open 2001 Nike U.S. Women's Cup

CHICAGO (Monday, August 13, 2001) - Germany, winners of the 2001 European Women's Soccer Championships just over a month ago, will open the 2001 Nike U.S. Women's Cup with a match against Japan on Friday, Sept. 7, at Schwaben Field in Buffalo Grove, Ill., a northwest suburb of Chicago. The game, which kicks off at 5:30 p.m. CT, will be the opener for the four-team, six-game tournament that also features the United States and China. Tickets will be sold only on the day of the game at the gate. General Admission prices are $10 for an adult and $8 for youth (12 and under). Germany roared through competition at the recent European Championships on home soil, defeating Sweden, 1-0, in a rain-soaked final game on a "golden goal" by Claudia Muller.
