Post Match Quote Sheet: USA vs. Honduras

U.S. head coach WILMER CABRERA
On the game:
“We expected to qualify. That was our first objective. Our second objective was to play the greatest number of players possible to see what level they are at. We have accomplished our task and we have done it by winning. We are very happy and now we hope to reach the final.

On changing his lineup:
“It was a pretty match. We had six players play who were not starters and with the other five players, we confronted a Honduran team who knew they had qualified already and that probably changed their perspective of the game. Our first objective was to qualify for the World Cup. Our second objective was to play the greatest number of players possible. We have accomplished our tasks and we have done it by winning. We wanted to give the other players a chance to play in a competitive game. Slowly but surely those players felt the rhythm of the game.”

U.S. midfielder and ussoccer.com Man of the Match NICHOLAS PALODICHUK
On scoring the game winner:
“Coming in as a sub it’s one of the things you want to do, especially in qualifying. It’s a great feeling. It gave me a lot of confidence. Scoring that goal makes it easier because it kind of relaxes you in a good way.”

On how it felt to be in the starting lineup:
“At first I was really nervous, just trying to get used to everything. But going out there and playing for your country and hearing the national anthem was just huge. That was a big thing for me, it felt really good.”

U.S. midfielder MARLON DURAN
On how the team played tonight:
“We had some new players on the field, but we’re all one team. The guys who got their chance tonight wanted to show that they belonged and I think we did well together and we came out together.”

On how he feels after three games in five days:
“I’m tired, but overall I feel good because we won. We have three days rest now before the semifinal so that will be really nice.”
