U.S. Under-17s Open Tournament In Italy With Win Over England, Hold Russia Scoreless in Draw

GAETA, Italy (September 13) - The U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team drew 0-0 with Russia today in the FISF International Soccer Tournament in Italy.  The U.S., who topped a star-studdedd English team 2-1 in their opener on Thursday, can advance to the tournament final with a win over Yugoslavia on Sunday.

The U.S. opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over England on Thursday, led by the play of speedy forward Jacob Peterson.  Peterson was taken down in the penalty area to set up a penalty kick that Guillermo Gonzalez converted in the 19th minute to level the score, and then Peterson scored the gamewinner on his own five minutes later.

The tournament is being staged to commemorate the victims of Sept. 11 by the FISF and will see the U.S. play in Group A against England, Russia and Yugoslavia.  The tournament also features the Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy and Uruguay in Group B.  The winner of each group will square off against each other in the tournament final on Sept. 16 at Stadio Riciniello in Gaeta.  Below is the 18-player roster for the U-17s trip to Italy.
