U.S. U-18 Women's National Team Defeats Germany 2-1 in Florida

SUNRISE, Fla. (Feb. 1, 2011)The U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team defeated the German U-18s 2-1 with second half goals from Ashley Spivey and Rachel Price during a training camp running concurrently with the U.S. U-17s. Yesterday, the U.S. U-17s defeated the German U-17s by a 3-1 score.

After a scoreless first half, the USA struck in the 54th minute from a corner kick from the left by Isabel Farrell. Her service was powerfully headed home into the left corner of the net by Ashley Spivey.

Farrell was the catalyst for the second goal as well, as the Americans doubled their lead in the 62nd minute, also off a corner kick. This time Farrell played a ball on the ground to Rachel Price, who was positioned about 25 yards out and hit a first-time bending ball into the far left side of the net.

The Germans pulled a goal back with just two minutes left to play as Sara DaBritz cracked a shot from just outside the penalty box that flew inside the right post.

It was the first match and first international of the year for the U-18s.
