Academy Players of the Week for the Week of March 8

Yaw Amankwa
Club: D.C. United
Position: Forward

Yaw Amankwa led D.C. United’s attack on Saturday with a hat trick in the 4-2 victory against Potomac U-15/16. Both teams were off to a slow first half before Amankwa sparked the offense with three goals in the second. Amankwa has enjoyed a solid start to the season with six goals in D.C. United’s first nine games.

The team will hope the weather clears for their upcoming conference match against New York Red Bulls this weekend.

Brian De La Fuente
Club: Chivas USA
Position: Forward

Three was the magical number this weekend. U-17/18 Player of the Week, Brian De La Fuente, also tallied a hat trick against LAFC Chelsea in Chivas USA’s highest scoring victory this season, finishing with a 6-0 score line. De La Fuente has made a strong contribution to his team’s offensive efforts leading with 11 goals in 16 games, including 9 goals in the months of February and March.

Chivas USA hopes to continue their recent success as the team goes into this weekend’s match against Irvine Strikers with two wins from both matches they have played this month.
