U.S. Under-17 Women's National Team Beats Germany 2-0

SUNRISE, Fla. (Feb. 7, 2012) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team defeated its age-group counterparts from Germany, 2-0, in the first of two friendly matches during a training camp in Florida.

Both U.S. goals came in the second half of a tight match with Andi Sullivan tallying in the 53rd minute followed by an Emily Bruder clincher in the 69th minute.

The U.S. team had more possession in the match but did not pick up the energy until after the break, and the team created two goals through the effort.

The first goal came when Summer Green slipped a pass to Sullivan at the top of the penalty box. The crafty dribbler evaded the German center back and slotted the ball into the lower left corner to break the deadlock.

The USA doubled its lead with just over 20 minutes left on a nice individual effort from Bruder. The powerful forward won the ball near the right sideline, dribbled toward the middle of the 18-yard box and curled a shot into the upper left corner with her left foot.

The two teams will meet again on Thursday, Feb. 9, to complete the two-game set. The U.S. team is currently preparing for CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying that will be held in early May in Guatemala as the USA will try to earn a berth to the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan.
