Seven-Game Winning Streak: By the Numbers

The wins have come in friendlies, World Cup Qualifiers and the Gold Cup. They have spanned matches across the United States and abroad. And they have come with virtually two completely different groups of players. Oh, and a few milestones have been set along the way. Here’s a look inside the numbers:

During the streak …

  • 34 players have earned at least one cap
  • 25 goals have been scored by the United States
  • Six have been surrendered
  • 12 U.S. players have scored
  • Four players got their first goal for the National Team (Alejandro Bedoya, Joe Corona, Brad Evans, Chris Wondolowski)
  • Three wins have been by shutout
  • Six of the seven games have been on U.S. soil
  • Two games were played at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah

In the record books …

  • Jozy Altidore joined five other U.S. players in history who have scored in four straight games.
  • Landon Donovan became the first MNT player to score 50 career goals.
  • He then became the only MNT player in history to record 50 goals and 50 assists.
  • Scoring against Belize, Donovan is now the only player in history to record goals in six different Gold Cups.
  • Chris Wondolowksi scored the third hat trick in Gold Cup history for the United States.
  • With five goals five goals from two games in the tournament, Wondo has become the only U.S. player in history to score that many in a single Gold Cup tournament.
  • He is the second U.S. striker to score in three straight games this year, along with Altidore.

Also of Note …

  • The three wins in World Cup Qualifying vaulted the United States to the top of the Hexagonal with four games remaining.
  • Named as captain for the Gold Cup, DaMarcus Beasley has played in five of the seven games during the streak.
  • Stuart Holden scored his first goal for the National Team in four years. All three of his career tallies for the MNT have come during a Gold Cup.
