U.S. Head Coach Greg Ryan
On having his young team experience a tough one-goal match:
“I think it’s critical. Tonight we went with one of our youngest lineups we’ve gone with all year long. When you go over (to the Women’s World Cup), you are going to be in these kinds of games where it means everything to both teams and you are playing a great opponent. I am really pleased about how they held up. I thought from the beginning of the game to the end they got stronger. I was really happy with the core of young midfielders that were all over the park.”

On the team defending:
“I’m so happy with the group. This is something that we have focused on the last few days that it takes eleven people to defend properly. I thought that Abby and Tarpley and Lilly were doing a good job of defending in front of us and it allowed us to win balls and give it right back to them to attack.”

On the match:
“The goal is to get in sync again. The two week break slowed us down a little bit. I don’t think this was our best soccer, but it wasn’t supposed to be. It was one of our best efforts and that’s what won us the game. Down the road we just have to get in sync again. I’ve told the players that there is going to be so many that play a role in this World Cup. We’re not going to be a team of just eleven, and we have so much talent and people that match up differently. I think that we’ll get a chance to see more and more players in these games.”

On the goal:
“We talked about short corners against Norway because they are so good defending (crossed balls). We didn’t do well with most of the ones we took today, but we kept looking for it. Lil put the great ball in and Carli is on the doorstep, so it was nice to get one.:

U.S. captain Kristine Lilly
On Norway:
“They are a strong, combative team, but they are playing more soccer. It was a fun game to play against them. It was a good game for us because it is a World Cup team right here and we’re going to see games like this where it’s not going to go our way -- the balls are not going to pop into the net sporadically. Finishing was off for us, but we did sneak one in and that was a credit to our team.”

On the goal:
“It was just a quick corner. Kai played it quick, a good choice on her part, and I just bent a ball in and Carli’s head was right on it. We caught them a little off-guard.”

On her homecoming on Kristine Lilly Day in the state of Connecticut:
“It’s great. It’s always nice to come back to the place that I started, and the support here has been incredible throughout my career. It was just a good day, a great crowd today.”

U.S. midfielder Carli Lloyd
On Norway:
“I give a lot of credit to Norway. That was probably the best team I’ve played in during my National Team career. It was a great physical match. They put up a great fight and I thought it was a great win for us.”

On finally breaking through with a goal in the 66th minute:
“Getting an earlier goal would have been better, but we got the goal and were able to hold them off and we finished up great.”

On her goal:
“Lil hit a beautiful ball back to back post. The whole Norway team wasn’t really looking and I was able to make the run and finish it.”
