Veronica Perez Selected to Officiate at 2012 CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championship

CHICAGO (Feb. 13, 2012) – Veronica Perez has been selected to officiate at the 2012 CONCACAF Under-20 Women’s Championship, being held from March 1-11 in Panama City, Panama.

Perez joined the FIFA Women’s Panel of Assistant Referees in 2008 and has officiated at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the CONCACAF Women’s World Cup Qualifying tournament from Oct. 28 to Nov. 8, 2011, in Mexico.

Perez was an assistant referee during the 2010 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup and the 2011 Women’s World Cup, both in Germany. At the 2011 Women’s World Cup, Perez officiated in the third-place match between Sweden and France.

The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team has been drawn into Group B for the Championship. The team will kick off tournament play against Guatemala at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, March 2. The USA will then face Cuba on Sunday, March 4, and wrap up group play against host Panama on March 6.

Group A consists of Mexico, Haiti, Canada and Jamaica. The winner of Group A will meet the Group B runner-up, and vice-versa, in the semifinal matches on March 9. The finalists and winner of the third-place game will earn a berth to the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup, which will be from Aug. 18 to Sept. in 8 Japan.
