Post-Match Quotes: USA 6, Costa Rica 0

U.S. head coach KAZBEK TAMBI

On the match:

“We’re pleased that the kids came out and played a solid last game. Obviously, they were really depressed coming out of the last game as they know they are probably the best team here. It was great to see them muster the strength and character to get it done today.”

On the future of this current crop of U-17s:

“What the tournament demonstrated is that there is a really bright future for the women’s game in the U.S. It’s tough to swallow that this team won’t be going to the World Cup. We’ve got some young players here who are definitely ahead of the game as compared to their predecessors a few years ago who were able to go to the World Cup and win a silver medal. But at the same time, it’s going to be a great lesson learned for every body and there are at least a few players here with the potential to help our senior team one day.”

On the tournament:
“It was good to end with a win. We know we didn’t have a good game against Canada, but we followed it up with a good result and made a statement about our how team and our players. It shows a lot of character that we kept a shutout throughout the entire tournament, but we just didn’t do enough against Canada, and in soccer, the best team doesn’t always win.”

U.S. midfielder KAYSIE CLARK

On the tournament:
“We learned a hard lesson that every minute of every game counts. It was good to end on a winning note after the disappointment of the last game, and good to play with these girls again. Even though we are not going to the World Cup, the friendships we’ve developed on this team will last a long time and hopefully a bunch of us can come back and try again with the U-20s.”
