U.S. Under-15 Men's National Team Falls 1-0 To FC Greater Boston Bolts at Nike Friendlies

BRADENTON, Fla. (December 1, 2005) — The U.S. Under-15 Boy’s National Team fell to the FC Greater Boston Bolts Under-16 Boy’s, 1-0, in their opening match of the 2005 Nike Friendlies on Thursday, Dec. 1, at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. The young U.S. squad kept the Bolts scoreless in the second half but were unable to overcome a one-goal deficit.

Michael Bustamante scored the lone goal of the match in the 19th minute. Bustamante collected the ball on the left side of the field, cutting it in past the U.S. defense and firing a right-footed shot past U.S. goalkeeper Zac MacMath and into the upper right corner.

The U.S. created many dangerous chances, most notably in the first half when Gregory Garza crossed the ball into Kevin Durr at the top of the penalty area. Durr took a shot, forcing the Boston goalkeeper to stretch in order to just tip it over the goal.

MacMath played well in goal for the U.S., picking up six saves, five in the first half.

Second-half U.S. substitute Jesus Mireles left the match due to injury in the 69th minute. The U.S. next faces the U-16 Concorde Fire boys’ team at 10 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
