U.S. WNT forward ABBY WAMBACH
On the depth of the U.S. WNT, which played five players with six caps or less in tonight’s match:
“I’ve said time and time again that Tom has a difficult job over the next two years deciding what the team is going to be, who are going to be the starters. In the end it’s going to be about who is playing well at the time and who is healthy. Some of that is a little bit of luck and the other part of it is his job and that’s why he gets paid the big bucks.”

U.S. WNT forward SYDNEY LEROUX
On playing the full 90 minutes:
“I haven’t gotten a chance to play 90 minutes a lot so it’s nice to get out here and play and be able to score goals. My team did a very good job giving me service.”

On the growth of women’s soccer this summer in the United States with the NWSL:
“This has been a really good summer for us. I think the NWSL really had a good first year and we’re hoping that next year it’s even bigger and better. Now we get to come back and play in front of our fans. We’re very thankful right now and with the World Cup on the horizon; we’re getting ready.”

On whether she imagined having such a performance prior to the game:
“I’ve been feeling confident. I think the NWSL did help me in my confidence and being able to take people on more and use my speed. You never think that you’re going to score four goals but it ended up working out. I was in the right place at the right time and I had great service.”

On the young players in the squad:
“It’s great. We have a bunch of new players and it keeps the competition going within our team. We push each other and it’s great to have new players in.”

U.S. WNT midfielder KRISTIE MEWIS
On the first goal:
“What I tried to do was just get a little bit wide so Erika [Tymrak] could do her stuff in the middle. Then I just got it wide, crossed it and saw Abby in the middle so I tried to drive it on the ground. She ended up getting there and it was awesome.”

On Sydney Leroux:
“Syd grows all the time. She’s such a hard worker, so talented, so athletic, so driven. This is all she wants and she loves it so much. She works hard every day to get where she wants and I think it shows because she got four goals today.”

On how she sees the growth of the U.S. team:
“I think this league has helped so much. It has been so amazing to have somewhere to play with the best girls in the country and some international players from Mexico and Canada and even more from other countries. It was a great first year and all of us really enjoyed it. That has really helped us. I hope that we get to keep that going because it’s only going to improve soccer in the U.S.”

U.S. WNT defender LEIGH ANN ROBINSON
On what she took away from the game in her first cap:
“I think there were a lot of positives. The scoring was one of them. Just getting out of tight spaces was another. They pressured us from the beginning and I thought we got out well once we settled in. We were playing in tight spaces, knocking the ball around one-two touch, I think that’s something to take away from it, something [Tom] wanted us to do at halftime, use that width, and I thought that was something we did a lot better in the second half.”

On how the NWSL helped her prepare for something like the game tonight:
“It’s a platform. With it, I don’t think without it I would have even gotten a call-up. I think the NWSL was great for me but very important for everybody.”
