U-17 MNT Goalkeeper Josh Lambo

All you have to do is ask and Josh Lambo will let you into his noggin. He doesn’t hold back whether he’s explaining all his superstitions, ranting (and this year bragging) about his Chicago Bears or explaining how he’s actually a big fan of Usher before showing off his copycat dance moves. Don’t believe us? Click here to watch Lambo dance for ussoccer.com (go to player snap shots), and then come back and read all his replies to our “In 3’s” questionnaire.

Livin’:

Best place to live: On a beach, in the heart of a big city or on a large ranch?
“Best place for me to live is on a big ranch because I grew up, not necessarily in the country, but kind of out by it. I love a lot of land and a lot of trees. At my house outside of Chicago I had about three-and-a-half acres of woods. It would just be awesome to be able to go ATVing and everything.”

Best pre-game ritual: sleeping, listening to music or just relax?
“The pre-game ritual for me is always listening to music. It depends on how I’m feeling. Sometimes I’ll listen to rap, but right now I’m listening to punk rock, like Foo Fighters’ songs that are somewhat hard core.”

Worst thing about living in Wisconsin as a former resident of Illinois: Too much cheese, too many cows or the Packer fans?
“It’s gotta be the Packer fans. I’ll I have to say about yesterday’s game is ‘da Bears.”
(editor’s note: This interview was conducted the day after opening day of the NFL season and the Bears defeated the Packers.)

Favorite country you’ve visited so far with the U-17s: England, Northern Ireland or Japan?
“Probably Northern Ireland because my roommate Brek Shea and I had a great time there. When we were in England before that he bought a miniature ping pong set which we set up and played all day long.”

Super power you’d most like to have: Ability to fly, invisibility or super strength?
“I’ve already got super strength, so that rules that out (laughs). Probably being able to fly because it would be amazing to just leave a party and say goodbye before flying out.”

Electronic equipment you couldn’t live without: Cell phone, computer or Ipod?
“It would probably be my phone because I have a pretty heavy-duty phone and it kind of services all three purposes.”

Soccer:
Toughest national team you’ve faced during your time with the U-17s: England, Brazil or Czech Republic?
“The way we played was probably England, not because they’re the best team but because we didn’t play our best. It was fun playing against Brazil and the Czech Republic because we got back at the Czechs. We’re just waiting for our time against Brazil.”

Favorite MNT goalkeeper: Tim Howard, Kasey Keller or Marcus Hahnemann?
“By far it is Tim Howard. He’s just an outstanding guy and a great ‘keeper. I respect him a lot because he has turrets syndrome, which my older brother has, and it’s a positive for my family because he proves to everyone that you can overcome it and it’s not really a disability. Overcoming that is just unbelievable and I give him the utmost respect for it.”

League in the world that you’d most like to play in: English Premier League, Serie A or German Bundesliga?
“EPL, just because the competition is unbelievable. You’ve got Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton, Blackburn, Charlton, which all have great players. There are weaker and stronger teams, but there is by no means a bad team in that league.”

Superstitions on day of game: Have one, have more than one or don’t have any?
“I have multiple. I always have to listen to music. I talk to my brother before big games because he always psyches me up and calms me down at the same time. I take my jewelry off in a specific way and put it in a specific pocket in my bag. I never warm-up with shin guards on. I always warm-up with pants. Before the game, I also punch fists with all my defenders. I kind of changed it though because I used to walk up to the 18-yard line, do a little hop-skip, sprint up to the goal and then hit the crossbar, go to the six-yard box and say a prayer to my grandma. But in Japan against the Czech Republic the refs rushed us so I didn’t have time to do it and I played real well, so I stopped doing that routine.

MLS team with the best chance of winning the championship in 2006: New England Revolution, D.C. United or FC Dallas?
“I would say D.C. because they started out really good, but…nah, you know, I’ll still say D.C.

Other Sports:
Quarterback that gives the Chicago Bears the best chance to win the division this season: Rex Grossman, Brian Griese or Kyle Orton?
“Whoever’s not hurt. That’s all I have to say.”

NFC North team you’d like the Bears to beat the most: Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings or Detroit Lions?
“The team I’d like the Bears to absolutely pounce on like that did earlier this season has got to be the Packers.”

Best sporting event: NCAA Final Four, Super Bowl or the World Cup?
“Probably the World Cup because it lasts a month and everyone gets psyched up for it. All the commercials are great and the hype for it is unbelievable.”

Of the three worst NFL teams in 2005, the one with the best chance of getting into the playoffs in 2006: Texans, Saints or Titans?
“I’m going to go with the Saints, they’re going to have a comeback year. The community is going to bring them together and they’ll do well.”

Fan of:  the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox or whoever’s winning?
“Cubs. My brother likes them and if I rooted against them he’d probably beat me up.”

Sport you’d want to be a professional in if you didn’t play soccer: Golf, basketball or football?
“If I didn’t play soccer professionally then I’d play football just to hit people because I have a lot of anger and I want to let it out.”

Eats:
Best kind of dishes you can make: breakfast items, dinner entrees or desserts?
“Desert. I make good brownies, pretty good cake and I make some nice monster cookies, too.”

Best fast-food burger joint: McDonalds, Burger King or Wendy’s?
“As far as the burgers go, I have to go Wendy’s. For fries, then I’ll go Burger King And last, shakes I’m going McDonalds.”

What are you eating dipping your french fries in: Ketchup, mayonnaise or nothing?
“Either ketchup or nothing. It depends on how I’m feeling.”

Usual breakfast: Eggs and bacon, cereal or pancakes?
“Usual breakfast has got to be eggs and bacon.”

Entertainment
Women’s magazine you’ll actually admit to reading an entire article in: Cosmo, Glamour or InStyle?
“I can’t admit to any of those because I rarely read. I barely read in school, let alone a women’s magazine.”

Male pop artist that you can dance like most: Justin Timberlake, Usher or Michael Jackson?
“Between Usher and Michael Jackson. Did you really show me dancing Usher? I need a copy of that.”
(editor’s note: Lambo did an Usher impersonation that you can see here.)

Paris Hilton is: hot, dumb or a good singer/actress?
“She is an idiot, so I’m going dumb.”

You become blessed with amazing musical voice. What singing career are you pursuing: member of a boy band, solo artist or lead vocal in band?
“I would have to be the lead vocalist in a band because we’re trying to start a band in Residency. We’ve been talking about it for six months and it’s never going to happen. The name of our band hasn’t been decided, but we’re leaning toward, “The Other Band.”
