Klein to Replace Donovan on U.S. Roster for March 31 Match Against Poland

CHICAGO (March 25, 2004) - Kansas City Wizards midfielder Chris Klein has been called to the U.S. Men's National Team roster for the March 31 match against Poland in replacement of Landon Donovan, who is unable to participate due to illness.  Klein will depart for Warsaw on Friday evening, with the team beginning training the following afternoon. Klein, 28, had his best year ever for the national team in 2003, making seven appearances and scoring three goals.  Called into the first two camps of 2004, he appeared in the USA's 1-1 draw against Denmark on Jan. 18 at the Home Depot Center.  He scored his first goal on international soil against Jamaica, the game-winner in the 2-1 victory on Feb. 12, 2003.  Klein has earned 15 caps for the senior team since making his debut in the 2-0 win against Mexico on Oct. 25, 2000 in Los Angeles. 

The United States will meet Poland on March 31 in Plock, Poland, in their first meeting since the 2002 World Cup. Kickoff for the match is set for 1:30 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN2. Fans can also follow the match live on's MatchTracker, presented by Philips Electronics.
