UPDATE: The team awoke to much sunnier skies today, the temperature rising to nearly sixty degrees before training this morning at UAB. A still-depleted side trained for nearly 90 minutes. On a positive note, Gregg Berhalter participated in his first live exercises since injuring his hamstring in Seattle last week. Jeff Agoos and DaMarcus Beasley remained sidelined, although both are expected to be available for the weekend. Meantime, head coach Bruce Arena revealed that Eddie Pope and Richie Williams will not be returning to the U.S. camp after leaving for the FC Champions Cup match between D.C. United and Comunicaciones to be played in Guatemala later today. U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard celebrated his 23rd birthday today.
KOREA HITS THE ROAD: The Korean national team departed for Spain today where they will conduct a three-week European training camp. Based in La Manga, Spain, the team will play three friendlies against Tunisia (Tunis - Mar. 13), Finland (Catenga, Spain - Mar. 21), and Turkey (Bochum, Germany - Mar. 26). European-based players Seol Ki-hyun (Anderlecht), Ahn Jung-hwan (Perugia) and Sim Jae-won (Frankfurt) have yet to be seen by head coach Guus Hiddink and are expected to join the training camp, although their arrival time has not been determined. Hiddink plans to use the trip to settle his final 23-man roster for the FIFA World Cup.
THEY SAID IT: "When I was a professional the only thing I got when I turned 23 was fined."
