U.S. U-17 WNT Pick Up Second Straight Win Over Germany 2-0

Carson, Calif. (March 2, 2005) – The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team picked up its second straight 2-0 win over the Germany U-17 Women’s National Team as Jessica McDonald scored in the 41st minute and Kelly O’Hara added a clinching goal in the 71st, her second in as many games.  The USA won the first match of the two-game set last Monday.

The U-17s scored for the second straight match off a set play and this time it was McDonald getting on the end of it.  The USA took a free kick from the top of German penalty box as Melissa Hayes slipped the ball behind the German back line.  McDonald ran it down to finish first time into the upper right corner of the net.

The second goal came on a breakaway as Rachel Givan sent a through ball that beat the German’s restraining line.  O’Hara broke away from her defender and slipped the ball past the charging ‘keeper into the left corner.
The USA out-shot Germany, 15-8, and did not allow the Germans a goal over 180 minutes.
