U.S. U-20 MNT vs. Canada Quote Sheet

Post-Game Quote Sheet: U.S. U-20 MNT vs. Canada
Feb. 26, 2013

U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team head coach TAB RAMOS
On the victory to secure a U-20 World Cup berth:
“I have to give the players so much credit for today. Not only are they playing a very difficult game that has a lot of pressure, but at the same time they found themselves behind. I enjoyed seeing the satisfaction on the players’ faces when they accomplished something big. I’m glad to be a part of today’s result.”

On the rally and improving as a team:
“We really didn’t wake up until we were down 1-0. Even though Canada allowed us to have the ball, I thought we really weren’t creating opportunities. We have a lot of improvement to do, but at the end of the day we got the job done and I can’t take credit away from the players because I know how difficult it is to be on the field in a game like this.”

U.S. Under-20 MNT forward JOSE VILLARREAL
On securing a berth to the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup:
“That’s the reason why we’re here – to qualify – and that’s what we’ve been trying to do for a year and a half now. So we’re happy, we’re proud of each other and how we played as a team. We did a good job out there.”

On putting together a good result against Canada after falling to the team in October last year:
“We kind of knew we had a lot more to show the crowd and all you guys. It was good that we got the four goals and it gives momentum to the team. It was a good win for us.”

On his two-goal performance:
“I’m just happy to be able to help out the team in any way possible. If they need me to score, I’ll score. If they need me to defend, I’ll defend. We work as a unit and I’m proud of the game.”

U.S. Under-20 MNT midfielder WIL TRAPP
On scoring the game-winning goal that gave the USA a 3-1 lead:
“It’s awesome. You look up in the stands, you look at your teammates and everyone’s smiling. I don’t score many goals, so it’s very exciting.”

On rallying from Canada’s early lead:
“I think being down 1-0 woke us up a little bit. And you could see on the field the three goals right after they scored. That’s the response that we needed and that’s what we got.”

On rising to the occasion in a must-win game:
“There was tons of pressure, but we didn’t really think too much about it. We knew we had to win. We went about our business as usual.”

U.S. Under-20 MNT midfielder LUIS GIL
On the World Cup berth:
“It’s a great feeling, especially after a game like this. We’ve been working at it for a while now. It’s always good to get this result.”

On the team’s response after Canada’s 1-0 lead:
“They got an early goal on us and I felt like the reaction from the guys was great. We didn’t let down and we didn’t fold. We got that quick goal back and from there it just took off. It was a good test for us because we hadn’t been put in this situation before in this tournament. We handled it well.”
